Consequences of the comparisons
The residue margin and the truncation error must be controlled together. Enlarging a congruence may enlarge both, while a finite prefix constrains no later coefficients. Periodicity modulo an integer likewise places no general upper bound on rational rank. These comparisons leave the equivalent residue conditions intact, with their original requirements for witnesses at unbounded indices.
These are limitations of specified arguments, not an exhaustive classification of possible methods. In particular, an averaging estimate is one possible source of the missing information, not the only possible source. A new arithmetic identity or a propagation theorem could also be useful. The next section describes the precise assumptions of several approaches considered here.
