Hankel Determinants of Geometric Moments and Rational Lambert Values

Summary. Positive geometric moments and a uniform partition-sum bound give the fixed-base asymptotic of Zudilin’s normalised Hankel determinants, including its constant and power correction. A separate calculation of degrees after cancellation in his 2004 forms extends the rational-base irrationality region. It includes every positive integral power of 31/4 and excludes 3/2.

This paper covers the fixed-base Hankel asymptotic and rational-base irrationality theorem; the long paper develops exact orders, content and endpoint obstructions, and the remaining problem at 3/2.

It does not establish the validity of claims tagged Lean, which belongs to the cited kernel-checked source, or a solution to Erdős #1049, which remains open.

Comparison with earlier criteria

Bundschuh and Väänänen’s Theorem 2 at α=−1 [2] gives irrationality for log⁡b/log⁡a<θBV:=1/2−1/π2. Their q is the base a/b>1, not its reciprocal. Their logarithmic derivative is Lq(z)=∑j≥1(qj+z)−1, so the value at z=α=−1 is exactly F(a/b). The rational height is h(q)=a, and their parameter λ=log⁡h(q)/log⁡q is 1/(1−log⁡b/log⁡a), which gives the displayed cutoff. Since π2<10, one has θBV<2/5<log⁡4/log⁡31, so 31/4 lies outside that sufficient region. The two sufficient regions differ on [θBV,θ∗). Zudilin also notes an extension to noninteger rational bases p=r/s for the generalized q-logarithm when log⁡|r|>clog⁡|s|, with c>0 computable but unspecified [5]. The value c=μ here comes from the 2004 forms [4], not from evaluating the unspecified constant in the 2016 construction.

The positive-remainder estimates require x>1, so they give no statement for negative bases. The series diverges at x=1. The companion’s height-criterion section also applies Bundschuh and Väänänen’s cited theorem at 7/2.
